What we do & fees

Jen Hawley and her fabulous teachers offer professional tuition in guitar, bass, singing, keyboards, violin, drums harmonica, sax, clarinet and even yodelling from her private music studios,  situated in Footscray (Everard St and Wolvehampton St) and Altona, Melbourne.

Adult lessons are conducted on a one to one basis, enabling us to focus our attention on each individual student and their particular requirements. Children may prefer to have lessons in pairs with a friend, or even with their parents!  After school introduction to music groups will be advertised soon.

All students have the opportunity to take part in our end of year concert.  Singer/songwriter concerts are held at local cafes and open mics throughout the year.

At Jen’s Music School, we structure the lessons around the student’s musical ability, musical taste, building skills and having fun. Lessons can be weekly or fortnightly, or even on a casual basis if you want to top up your skills (this can be negotiated with the teacher if the schedule allows).

Check out our groups page. Group and workshop programs in songwriting, improvising and performance are available. We also have a children’s choir and the Footscray Gypsies, a world music community group.

Reviews

Thanks for organising the showcase concert last weekend. Our son really enjoyed the chance to get up and show off what he’s been learning. My wife and I both commented afterwards what an amazingly talented group of students you have.I also just wanted to let you know that we’ve been very happy with Jake. He really has a great sense of how to make it fun for our son by balancing challenge with things that give him a sense of accomplishment. Quite a talent, especially for a young guy! Thanks again.

I got an acoustic guitar as a present for my birthday and didn’t know where to go to learn as I was an absolute beginner. I found Jen’s Music School and decided to give it a go – I’m so glad that I did. My teacher is Jen Hawley herself and she has been teaching me guitar since 2010. She is not only talented and inspiring, but a patient and gifted teacher. Her passion for music is infectious and when mixed with her extensive experience, it adds a whole new dimension to the style of teaching. You can’t help but love to learn. You should definitely check them out.

Registration
Our normal teaching year is from 15 January  through to 18 December. Home visits: add $5 to lesson. (email to check if we go to your location)

Lessons in pairs: half hour $40.00. hour $80.00.

Small group lessons (3 or 4 students) $17.00 each student. hour $34 each.

Cancellations
If you cancel more than 24 hours in advance, there is no charge, however if it’s less than 24 hours you will still need to pay for the lesson or do a makeup if you and the teacher can find a time by the end of the following week.

Even if you need to cancel a lesson a week or more in advance, it would be great if you could schedule a makeup/double lesson by the end of the following week as the teachers are holding this time for you and this is how they make their living.

Make-up Lessons
Please note that we do not guarantee to make up any missed lessons by the student in the term. However, we will do our best when possible to provide a make up lesson. Lessons and teachers may need to change from time to time – the school reserves the right to make these changes when necessary.
